Standing on the Edge of Forever by Angelci5 (angel_ci5), Artist: Mella68 (mella68)

(B/D AU)

1984 - When tragedy strikes, SAS Sergeant Bodie blames himself entirely. Crushed by guilt, he leaves the army and turns his back on life, until one day a Major Cowley asks for his help. A man called Raymond Doyle has been taken prisoner by the Russians in Soviet-occupied Afghanistan, and Cowley needs him rescued and brought back to the UK. Bodie agrees to go to Afghanistan and try and rescue this idiot who's got himself imprisoned. But when he meets him, it turns out the idiot is not quite what Bodie was expecting. In fact, this Raymond Doyle does some rescuing of his own, in more ways than one.

Verity’s One of Us by Dawnwind (dawnebeth), Artist: Lorraine (artconserv)

Caring for a ten month old baby girl isn’t quite what Bodie and Doyle expected when they set out to meet a colleague in a small village. Neither were foreign agents and black habited nuns. After a day like this, is it any wonder Bodie and Doyle fall into each other’s arms?

Hire Purchase by Dee Natsuko (natsuko1978), Artist: Kat-byrd (sc_fossil)

(eventual B/D; friends to almost-lovers)

Bodie's never really had a place that he'd call 'home' - not with more meaning than a place to store his belongings and rest his head, anyway - and that started long before the Merchant Navy, gun-running, the mercenaries or his more legitimate, if no more settled, life since. They say the child is father to the man - but Bodie spent twenty-some years and God knows how many miles putting that kid behind him.

Right now he is owned by George Cowley (well, being bought under HP, anyway) and partnered with Ray Doyle and that is enough. He is good at his job and likes it well enough. If they could just get those two weeks leave they are owned, that would be icing on the cake.

Except that two faces from the past have now reappeared in a CI5 dossier. And dreams of a past best forgotten are haunting him. And he is well and truly overdue for that leave.

(Bodie/Murphy leading to Bodie/Doyle)

Bodie runs afoul of an old mercenary buddy from his days in Africa who wants to know the whereabouts of a mutual friend. While Bodie's severely beaten, he only gives up his old friend in order to save Doyle's life. Doyle doesn't agree with Bodie's decision and it makes him question the value of Bodie's loyalty, going as far as to ask Cowley for a new partner.

Back in London after recuperating in Brighton, Bodie is unable to yet return to the squad but he is forced to share a flat with Doyle.

Meanwhile, Doyle has to deal with the revelation that Bodie and Murphy are involved, the nature of their relationship pointing to places Doyle is unwilling to go, even after finally admitting to himself that he's in love with Bodie.

Cold Water Morning by Fictionwriter (margaret_r), Artist: Krisser (krisserci5)

George Cowley is a hard taskmaster, but he wants only the brightest and the best for his new CI5 taskforce, as Raymond Doyle soon finds out. He is teamed with the cold and enigmatic Bodie for their final assessment but things quickly go horribly wrong and the pair find themselves isolated in the Northumbrian wilderness. Working together for survival Doyle discovers another side to Bodie as their relationship grows, but everything changes with a return to civilisation. Then Bodie goes undercover on a dangerous assignment.

Half As Much As I Do by Halotolerant (halotolerant), Artist: SCH (scherwood)

Despite all the problems it could bring, Bodie had always loved being in CI5 and it had always felt to him all those things that perhaps did mean home – stability, comfort, protection, sympathy.

Some of that had been Ray. He knew that now.

And so Ray leaving had been like half that home caving in, and that, he supposed, made it all OK. It all made sense, if you looked at it like that. After all, if your home was half knocked-through then, no matter how decent what came afterwards was, it would feel odd. That was really very normal. It didn’t mean anything.

Bodie understands why Ray left – his injury, though not life-threatening, was enough to end his time as an agent. What he can’t figure out is why Ray went away, all the way to another town and another life. Now, with Ray having invited him over to visit, and Bodie isn’t sure what to say, or do, or even to feel, as he gradually comes to discover more about Ray and, perhaps, also himself.

But Ray’s new life is complicated, and flatmate dramas, messy break-ups and a badly positioned spider-plant are just some of the new impediments to the boys building something new together.

Untitled by JoJo (solosundance), Artist: Firlefanzine (firlefanzine)

Three weeks into CI5 and Bodie’s struggling to keep his chaotic life under control. He’s bothered by horrors from the past, things he thinks he’s left behind, the crashing doubts George Cowley seems to have about him, and the fact that his scruffy new partner isn’t at all what he was hoping for. Then to top it all, one cold November morning he wakes up in bed with someone he doesn’t know, someone who he absolutely shouldn’t be in bed with, and before long he and Doyle are heading west into the freezing fog with a defecting ballet dancer in the back seat, and a gun-happy KGB in pursuit.

Cowley's Inscrutable Five by Krisser (krisserci5), Artist: Togsos (togsos)

(Victorian steampunk AU)

Mr Cowley knows that The Queen and all of Londinium is in great peril. Can he find men to help prevent the menace looming?

When Hope Despairs by Lbc (longstrt), Artist: snailbones (snailbones)

Ray Doyle finds someone else to love after he chooses to split from his CI5 partner, Bodie. Justin St. Hilary offers him many things that Bodie didn’t, including an opportunity to make art his life’s work. Bodie discovers that Doyle’s interest in someone else makes him a very unhappy camper. In fact, seeing the two men together makes Bodie decide to change his plans for the future.

Head Games by LilyK (sc_fossil), Artist: Banbury (banbury)

(A loosely based Pride and Prejudice story)

Doyle finds himself working with an agent from MI6. Bodie is arrogant, condescending, demanding... and bloody gorgeous. He rubs Doyle the wrong way every time they meet, yet something about the man draws Doyle in. When he discovers that Bodie interfered with Murphy's romance with Bodie's partner, Mary Bingley, Doyle is determined to make Bodie pay for his blatant cruelty.

Untitled by Marjoram Max (marjorammax), Artist: Cloudless9193 (cloudless_9193) and Artist: Roven (roven75)

It was one of those prime examples of Murphy’s Law. What can go wrong, will go wrong. And when you work for CI5, when something goes wrong, the shit really hits the fan.

Of course, it didn’t start out that way. This time it started with what was meant to be a simple transporting job. But when has anything ever been simple when you’re dealing with terrorists … and unrequited love?

Untitled by Merentha13 (merentha13), Artist: Rain Milomaus (milomaus)

Unhappy with Bodie’s seeming withdrawal from their relationship and needing time alone, Doyle agrees to a job that has him working with the American CIA and reprising his role as Piet Van Neikerk. Cowley, leaving nothing to chance, secretly sends Bodie in undercover as well. Triple think and betrayal find both men’s covers blown. Held in a ship’s hold while their captors make arrangements to turn them over to the East Germans, believing they’ve finally used up their luck, the lads relive important moments in their partnership.

Untitled by ML Mead (moonlightmead), Artist: Smirra (smirra)

The devil makes work for idle hands. CI5 is, for once, under-employed. Bodie and Doyle put their idle hands to good use – on each other – happily enough, but are otherwise as bored as the other agents. Cowley, fresh from Whitehall confrontations and never keen on seeing under-occupied agents even in settled times, sends not only Bodie and Doyle on a low-risk assignment as a favour to ministerial mandarins, but Anson and Jax with them too. It's far from an onerous assignment, and there's plenty of time for downtime, chat, and catching up with CI5 gossip in the civilised surroundings of a small country house. So far, so cushy. Until Anson and Bodie start to suspect their charge is not who he is supposed to be. Who is he? Who is being fooled? Them, Cowley, or the government? Someone isn't fooled though, and that's when the bomb goes off. Literally.

As the dust settles, allegations are made. Allegations that are as explosive as the bomb they have already weathered, and allegations that may end their careers equally effectively. And in Cowley's office, it's not clear who has the shorter fuse.

South Coast by Moth2fic (moth2fic), Artist: Minori (minori_k)

Cowley and his political masters send Bodie and Doyle to investigate a neo-nazi group based in Eastbourne. The main focus is a right wing newspaper and the fears include links with foreign groups, smuggling as a funding method and encouragement of general thuggish behaviour towards minorities. Doyle is undercover as a local government worker contacting right wing sympathisers. Bodie is also undercover as his landlord and 'handler'. There are violent incidents in local parks and on the beach. A suicide from the cliffs at Beachy Head may not be what it seems. Will Doyle's cover be blown? Can Doyle's fellow lodger be trusted? Will danger make the partners admit their attraction to each other?

Untitled by Murphybabe (murphybabe), Artist: GiseeRouchon (giseerouchon)

Trust. As Cowley’s top team, Bodie and Doyle have no problems with trust on the job and in the bedroom – until Bodie makes a mistake that results in marriage. Things go from bad to worse and Bodie leaves CI5 and Doyle. Doyle struggles on but life is pointless without his partner. He meets up with Ann Holly again and marries her in a desperate attempt at normality, but this doesn’t work out either and Cowley arranges his secondment to Scotland Yard to work on a joint operation. Quite by chance, Bodie is involved in this operation, but it is a changed Bodie: down on his luck and sadly out of condition, he tries to help his former partner and is hurt. Doyle rescues him and takes him away to recover. Once healed, Bodie slips away into the night again. Some time later, Bodie tracks Doyle down to make amends. Doyle has renounced his previous life and is living on a smallholding in the wilds of Derbyshire, solitary, ascetic and self-sufficient. Bodie wants Doyle back but can Doyle bring himself to trust Bodie again? If he takes Bodie back, will it last? Or is the risk too great, and is this the time to turn the tables and walk away from Bodie?

Untitled by PFL (msmoat), Artist: Pale Rider (boothros)

William Bodie meets George Cowley as he is facing court-martial and prison while in the SAS. George Cowley makes a bargain with Bodie: work for him, keep his nose clean, and the “incident” on his record will be expunged. Eventually. The catch? Bodie has a mission within a mission: protect the man who will be assigned as his partner. Bodie agrees to Cowley’s terms. And then he meets bloody-minded, irritating, argumentative, never-give-up, ex-copper Raymond Doyle. Who, indeed, seems to need a keeper.

A Put-Up Job by Unbelievable2 (unbelievable2), Artist: Gvenanne (gvenanne)

(A gen story, but perhaps with an element of pre-slash, if you wear the right goggles and use a judicious degree of squint!)

It’s the early days of the partnership. Cowley orders the lads on a clandestine search for some missing official secrets, where Mi6 appear to have dropped the ball. But all is not as it seems, and when a routine pick-up goes badly wrong, they find themselves battling a number of adversaries. Working out whether they can trust anyone, even each other, proves a dangerous game.
