Wolfkammer by moth2fic
Title: Wolfkammer
Author name: moth2fic
Artist name: smirra
Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Word count: 32,265
Warnings: None
Summary: Cowley lends Bodie and Doyle to the authorities in Germany to help counter possible neo-nazi terrorism. Hints of the supernatural hinder and help their efforts but not everyone believes... During their time in Germany the lads discover new feelings for each other.
Notes: Many thanks to margaret_r  and firlefanzine for the beta. All remaining errors are a result of pig-headedly ignoring them. Heartfelt thanks to  smirra  who has produced the beautiful artwork to acccompany this fic. Many thanks, too, to kat_lair who is standing by ready to pretend currently pretending to be me and post this if I'm still offline on my assigned day!
The story was inspired by firlefanzine who remarked, wistfully (I thought), that nobody would ever set a Pros story in Wolfkammer, Komp and Mennkausen, which are villages near the place where she lives. Well, with a challenge like that... and we'd just been discussing the supernatural elements of All The Queen's Men, too!! So Wolfkammer is dedicated to her.

Wow! this sounds wonderful and fascinating and original (and I love "All the Queen's Men"! I can't wait to read it.

I do hope it lives up to your expectations! I had great fun writing it.
firlefanzine: Wolfkammerfirlefanzine on September 26th, 2010 12:00 pm (UTC)
Umph... dedicated to me? :-)
But I've only done that wistful(!) remark about the region where I live, I mean that Bodie and Doyle would never ever solve a case here around...

No, really! I feel honoured!
And you can't believe how much fun it was to read your story, and how happy I am to have a real Pros-location right on my doorstep! :-)

Thank you for that!

We will have to develop a trail for tourist fans! *g* I uploaded both icons but you used the Bodie one so I've used the Doyle one here. Smirra is very talented!

Thank you very much fo the pleasure to be an early reader of your magical story and the confidence to trust me with the art work. It was a pleasure to work for it!

I think I've already replied to this somewhere but just in case... the pleasure is all mine! Thank you!

The artwork is great, I loved the morphed images. And I have a soft spot for werewolves anyway! Thank you for writing this.
moth2fic: pros_bodiewolfmoth2fic on September 26th, 2010 06:53 pm (UTC)
I admit I'm extremely fond of werewolves... I hope you enjoy the fic! The art is superb and I'm still gasping with delight!!

Makes a change to see a Pros fic set outside the UK or Africa, and to see them out of their usual 'habitat' so to speak :)
moth2fic: pros_bodiewolfmoth2fic on September 26th, 2010 06:54 pm (UTC)
I hope you enjoy the different surroundings! I know police and army experts are borrowed from time to time so I thought why not our lads?
liriel1810 on September 27th, 2010 12:31 pm (UTC)
That was a really great read! Once I started, I couldn't stop until I'd finished. Loved Ray's fretting about accidentally revealing his feelings, and Bodie's matter of fact acceptance.

The wolves were a very intriguing aspect too.
moth2fic: pros_doylewolfmoth2fic on September 27th, 2010 01:37 pm (UTC)
Thanks! It's flattering to know I kept someone from other things they should have been doing... I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love werewolves (the fantasy version - I'm sure real ones would be unbearable!) and wanted to give my fic an element of magic AU whilst sticking with canon behaviour for the main characters.

I've downloaded all the stories so far and am about to start reading - I've been offline since the beginning of September till yesterday! So I'm late to the party but I'm looking forward to every moment!

It was such an interesting story. Great setting as well. And lovely art to boot.

Thank you! I enjoyed putting the lads in in a different setting to add interest! I'm in awe of Smirra's artistic skills and very grateful for her lovely illustrations.

I really enjoyed your story. You made me feel as if I was there, in the German countryside, with Wolves and wolves. *g* Your characters were very lifelike, with their own personalities. I liked how Doyle revealed his feelings and how much Bodie wanted him as well. Great story with a lot of atmosphere and interesting details. Thank you!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the setting as well as the lads! I know the area quite well though Firle and Smirra will tell you I took a lot of liberties with local customs etc. and 'imported' some from further south or further east. All in the name of fiction, of course... I got quite attached to Heike and she might get an original fic of her own one of these days.

Now I never thought that could work, assignment of the lads in Germany, in the deepest woods and all.
But you managed it *g* I thoroughly enjoyed the story and I liked the OC as well very much.

Thank you!
moth2fic: pros_doylewolfmoth2fic on October 5th, 2010 08:51 am (UTC)
I'm glad it worked for you!! I liked my OCs and am tempted to write a story for them with no pros interaction - I write original fic too.
robeau: Robeau Kittiesrobeau on October 6th, 2010 01:54 am (UTC)
I enjoyed the story and liked the hints you placed on the "wolves" vague and easy to miss until one has finished the story and bops themselves on the head for missing them.
moth2fic: pros_bodiewolfmoth2fic on October 6th, 2010 07:27 am (UTC)
I'm glad you enjoyed it - and of course you could have told yourself you didn't believe in werewolves instead of bopping yourself on the head *g*

What a great job you did with this rich setting. You really brought it to life. The plot was satisfyingly complex and very original!
moth2fic: pros_doylewolfmoth2fic on October 12th, 2010 09:02 am (UTC)
Thanks! I think I 'lived' in it while I was writing so I'm glad that 'reality' came across!

I am very fond of stories with the lads on foreign assignment, and the setting for this one was wonderful - I felt I was there. I really liked the love story angle too, the way Doyle was all ... internal about it, looking at Bodie full of longing, and Bodie seemed all bright and breezy and unaware (although of course he wasn't!). The disco scene was one of my favourites. Susanne and Christina seemed exactly who we might have seen them chatting up in the show :) And I do so like the idea of them in that big hotel bed, and the memories of their first times together that they'll have. Excellent story, thank you!
moth2fic: pros_bodiewolfmoth2fic on October 22nd, 2010 02:57 pm (UTC)
Thank you! I'm so glad you liked the setting. I know Germany fairly well but the detailed locations (like the hotel) are a sort of amalgam of my experiences. I lived there (in my head) while I was writing, so it's good news that I took readers with me!!

Well, I’ve just been saying that I never thought I’d read and enjoy a Pros story which involved zombies and I think I could say the same about werewolves because I’ve just read your story and thought it was a delight to read!

Hope it’s Ok to list a few specifics:

I loved the way you placed Bodie and Doyle in a foreign land unsure of themselves in terms of language and culture but always confident of their own particular skills; I liked the sense of ‘place’ you created, even down to the way the German characters spoke English, so much so that I felt I’d actually travelled and stayed in that little village in Germany (and saved the airfare!); and I loved the twist in the tail (sorry!) in the way you had the wolves protecting our lads rather than attacking them.

And generally, some very nice writing:

He stamped down the earth around the buried thoughts.

An intriguing, original read, I couldn’t ask for more! Thanks very much for this.
moth2fic: pros_bodiewolfmoth2fic on October 26th, 2010 08:19 pm (UTC)
Thank you for your lovely detailed comment! I'm so glad the concept worked for you! (I loved the zombie fic too, and I'm not normally a fan of zombies either!)

It's great to get specific feedback - something that tends to be lacking in big bang challenges partly because people run out of time!! Though it's wonderful to have so many fics to read!

I'm glad I introduced you to Germany, or at least to a Brit view of Germany. And that I made werewolves enjoyable...
