For Kicks by Dawnwind, artwork by Cloudless_9193
Title:For Kicks
Author:Dawnwind dawnebeth
Artist:cloudless_9193
Archive to Pros Lib: Yes
Genre: Slash
Character pairing: Bodie/Doyle, Halley/Barnes
Word Count:70222
Warnings: two kinky sex scenes

Summary: After preventing the kidnapping of a wealthy Middle-Eastern businessman's son, Bodie and Doyle are assigned to keep Karim Khorsandi safe until he signs an important oil contract. They team up with private investigators Halley and Barnes who are guarding Khorsandi's racehorse but it all goes awry. Bodie and Doyle have to unravel a complex knot of family loyalties and politics to find their suspect. They'd prefer to have stayed at home playing kinky sex games. Crossover with Racing Game

Notes: Loads of thanks for the Box of Tricks mods for hosting another fantastic Big Bang. It's my second year. I always feel supported and encouraged here. Special thanks to my beta/editors: sc_fossil who actually rented Racing Game from Netflix so she'd know the other characters when she read over the story! Wightfaerie, my Brit checker extraordinaire, and my friend Suzinsf who watches Racing Game but not Pros and edits my stories anyway. Much thanks to Cloudless for gorgeous art for the second year in a row. She recognized my homage to Dick Francis (who created Halley and Barnes of Racing Game) from the title alone.

I don't believe it. My favourite Dick Francis character Sid Halley in a Pros Big Bang fic.

I will be downloading and reading tonight.
dawnebeth: Sid and Chico in the cardawnebeth on October 13th, 2011 03:25 pm (UTC)
Bounces up and down--another Sid and Chico fan! The series Racing Game was filmed at exactly the same time as Pros, in '79 in England, so it seemed a very good fit! ;-D

Holy moly that's a long story! *grabs with grabby hands*

I shall return to comment once I've read (although that could take a while, I'm very sad to say).

I totally understand--long stories take a long time to read. Hope you enjoy!

Dawn, this story rocks. I love it. I've read it at least twice while you were writing and I shall read the final text as well. It has great characters and super hot kinky sex.

Watching Racing Game was no trial! I ended up liking Sid and Chico so much that I wish there were more eps. As it was I watched them multiple times. You nailed these blokes in more ways than one! *beg*

Wonderful story.

Cloudless, I love the art! It's gorgeous. Thanks so much for doing it for Dawnie. *g*

You are the best cheerleader, Kat! I wish there were more episodes of Racing Game, too! But at least there are two books of Sid and Chico, as well. (and two books with Sid without Chico.)

Thanks for embedding the art into the doc, it looks awesome.

Do you mean the DVD series or is there a movie called that?

That's my Sid and Chico icon.

I really enjoyed your story, and now I'm off to re-read the 3 Sid Halley novels. I had a look around for the Racing Game online but it doesn't look like it's available in Australia. I have a vague memory of hiring it from a Video store years ago but don't remember it screening here.
dawnebeth: Bodie/Doyledawnebeth on October 15th, 2011 06:04 am (UTC)
Thanks! I had great fun taking Bodie and Doyle to the races--and coming up with names for the race horses. ;-D

There are actually four Sid Halley books, but Chico is only in the first.

Great story! And hot! I'd not heard of the cross-over characters, but I'm going to check them out! Great plot, lots of action (in and out of "uniform" *g*) and the characterization of the lads was spot on. The art work, as usual from "cloudless" was terrific!

You're both free to join us "post-posters" for chocolate - but, please, leave the ginger at home! *g*

I'm always ready for chocolate--and you know, chocolate covered ginger is awesome. ;-D

I'm so happy you liked the story! I had lots of fun taking Bodie and Doyle to the races.

Racing Game is on Netflix if that is available to you. (six episodes staring Mike Gwilliam and Mick Ford) or the novels Odds Against and Whiphand by Dick Francis.

What a treat to have one of my favourite thrillers crossed with Pros! I adore Sid and if I have a complaint it's that we didn't get quite enough of him and Chico! It was also a treat to have a novel length story based around a case with solid relationships in the background instead of personal angst and less casework. Well done for writing very much in the style of Dick Francis!! Well, apart from the sex bits...I 'm not sure he'd have approved of those!*g*
dawnebeth: Sid and Chico in the cardawnebeth on October 19th, 2011 02:27 am (UTC)
Bless you! You make me all kinds of happy--I was worried that people would think there was too much Sid and Chico. So yay!

Sid and Chico's raunchier scenes do fade to black a la Mr. Francis...so I could devote all my efforts to Bodie and Doyle's.

This has made me wonder if I could write a whole Sid and Chico story.

Fantastic - my Sunday afternoon was spent in a blissful haze. Beautiful artwork, great Sid & Chico (I always wanted there to be slash between them, but the great Mr. Francis never went there) and strong, believable Bodie and Doyle. Thank you for a great read which I will return to again!
dawnebeth: Sid and Chico in the cardawnebeth on October 25th, 2011 05:17 pm (UTC)
Thank you so much! Hee--I was watching Racing Game (for the umpteenth time) a few years back and went oooo, Sid/Chico, but when I mentioned it to a fellow Dick Francis fan, she was no thanks. So I am very glad some Sid and Chico fans see it that way, too!

Bodie and Doyle are always easy to write with. ;-D
andreaandreathelion on October 25th, 2011 04:40 pm (UTC)
What a brilliant long story!
I so enjoyed the reading and was absolutely absorbed by the plot. Very well done and definitely a keeper!

And thanks as well to cloudless for the wonderful artwork!

You've made me very happy. It was quite a romp at the races...Yes, Cloudless created a gorgeous picture of all four lads.
margaret_r: B&Dmargaret_r on October 28th, 2011 09:28 am (UTC)
What a ride that was, and a very enjoyable one too! I liked the crossover aspect and loved Sid and Chico, they complemented the lads beautifully.

Thanks for such a great read.
dawnebeth: Sid and Chico in the cardawnebeth on October 28th, 2011 04:33 pm (UTC)
Thank you! When I realized the two series were filmed at exactly the same time, I had to combine Sid and Chico with Bodie and Doyle. A match made in heaven!

I'm not familiar with Racing Game, but this sounds fascinating! I'm d/ling for safekeeping on my kindle, and look forward to reading it as soon as I have more time. Thank you!

If you've read any Dick Francis, particularly Odds Against, you will recognize Sid and Chico. Hope you enjoy!

Gordon Bennett! What a massive fic - and all of it great! Thank you for all your hard work (and the lovely artwork too). I had no idea it was as big when I started - erm, you know what I mean *g* - so I've had to read it in installments. Really enjoyed it - your plot is brilliant, and although I'd never heard of Sid and Chico I'm now totally smitten with them.

Thank you again.

dawnebeth: Sid and Chico in the cardawnebeth on November 10th, 2011 04:24 pm (UTC)
Never fear with reading installments. ;-D That's the way I read anything, the way my life is. lol

Sid and Chico are wonderful--either by way of the series Racing Game (available on Netflix, if you have that option) or read Odds Against and Whiphand by Dick Francis. Glad you are totally smitten by them now. heee. That's them in my icon.
